easyJet, Europe’s leading airline, has today announced that it has selected SR Technics, a leading global aircraft maintenance provider, to perform its heavy maintenance for its Airbus A320 fleet of aircraft. The agreement, which was signed today in Malta alongside Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Jeremy Remacha CEO of SR Technics, is a five year deal.

easyJet and SR Technics have a long-standing relationship – SR Technics has been providing support to easyJet’s fleet since 2005. Maintenance will be provided in its Malta heavy maintenance facility for duration of the agreement. easyJet was SR Technics’ first customer when the facility in Malta was first opened in 2010.

Ian Davies, Head of Engineering and Maintenance for easyJet, said:

"We are delighted to extend our well-established partnership with SR Technics with the award of this five year deal. We have selected SR Technics Malta due to the quality of their work and standards in terms of safety, quality and efficiency. We look forward to working with them in the coming years.”

Dr Joseph Muscat, Prime Minister of Malta, commenting on the agreement, said;

"The Government of Malta is very happy that the long and complex negotiations between easyJet and SRT successfully concluded. We have helped as best and to the extent that we could.

“This contract will evidently translate into significant advantages for both easyJet and SRT whilst bringing high added value work to Malta.

“SRT, today employing nearly 200 employees, will now be embarking on a further expansion in order to be able to meet the increase in demand generated by this contract. With this expansion the company will be creating between 30 and 40 new jobs."

Jeremy Remacha CEO of SR Technics, said:

 “We are very happy to extend our partnership with easyJet. This contract shows that our strategy in Malta is on the right course contributing to the easyJet’s success. Our teams are committed to continue providing outstanding levels of safety, quality and reliability, and to delivering aircraft on schedule. We look forward to supporting them in the years to come.”

easyJet operates a fleet of more than 250 Airbus aircraft of which 106 are A320s.

Last month easyJet opened a new purpose built 2 bay hangar facility at London Gatwick Airport.  easyJet will also have increased oversight and management of all aircraft maintenance activity at London Gatwick through the recruitment of an onsite team. The onsite team will deliver two inputs every night, seven days a week and provide AOG hangar support as required.

easyJet flies on more of Europe’s most popular routes than any other airline. easyJet carries over 70 million passengers annually, of which more than 12 million are travelling on business. easyJet flies over 240 aircraft on more than 800 routes to over 130 airports across 31 countries. More than 300 million Europeans live within one hour's drive of an easyJet airport.

easyJet aims to be a good corporate citizen, employing people on local contracts in seven countries across Europe in full compliance with national laws and recognising their trade unions. The airline supports a number of local charities and also has a corporate partnership with UNICEF which has raised over £6m for the most vulnerable children since it was established in 2012.

The airline takes sustainability seriously. easyJet invests in the latest technology, operates efficiently and fills most of its seats which means that an easyJet passenger's carbon footprint is 22% less than a passenger on a traditional airline, flying the same aircraft on the same route.
