easyJet, Europe’s leading airline, has announced that it is supporting its charity partner UNICEF with an emergency Nepal Earthquake Appeal onboard to protect and support the children devastated by the Nepalese earthquake.

The airline’s cabin crew started emergency collections onboard yesterday to generate funds for the appeal, and easyJet has also donated £10,000 towards the cause. All money raised will be used to deliver clean water and other life-saving supplies to the children and families of Nepal. The collections will run for the next two weeks.

More than 40% of Nepal’s population are children and it is estimated that around 3 million children are in danger following Saturday’s earthquake.

Carolyn McCall, easyJet’s CEO, said:

“Everyone at easyJet has been deeply moved by the tragic impact of the earthquake in Nepal which is why we are supporting UNICEF’s emergency appeal by setting up onboard collections. We hope that with our support, and the generosity of our passengers, we will be able to make a real difference and help provide urgent emergency supplies to those affected.”

Unicef UK Executive Director David Bull said:

“With children accounting for half the country’s population, we fear loss of life and great disruption to children’s lives, as homes and schools are destroyed. Unicef has been working in Nepal for over 40 years so our experience and local knowledge is huge. But we can’t do it alone. Just £5 could help to provide an emergency water kit that will enable a family to collect, store and even purify water. The children of Nepal need our help. Please donate today.”

On Saturday 25 April, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake impacted Nepal, devastating the area around the capital city of Kathmandu. The earthquake has collapsed buildings, ruined schools and destroyed infrastructure, killing and injuring thousands.

easyJet’s on board donations from passengers for the Nepal Earthquake Appeal will be collected for the next two weeks on the airline’s flights, which span across a pan-European network of over 750 routes across more than 30 countries.

The airline has a long-term corporate partnership with UNICEF, ‘Change for Good’, which has raised more than £4m through passenger and staff donations for the most vulnerable children since it was established in 2012.
