easyJet, Europe’s leading airline, has today celebrated the 15th anniversary of its base at Newcastle International Airport.

Celebrations have taken place throughout the day at Newcastle International Airport, including an impressive cake for passengers at the easyJet check-in desk, and party food in the crew room for the pilots and cabin crew who operated the day’s flights.

Some lucky passengers on board the flight to Geneva won fantastic prizes as part of the celebrations, including a voucher for 2 easyJet return flights to anywhere across the network, and an Italian afternoon tea for 2 at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel here in Newcastle.

easyJet is proud to be Newcastle’s biggest airline, having flown over 18.6 million passengers since operations started there. With three based aircraft and over 150 staff members, easyJet provides Newcastle passengers with 15 domestic and international routes, including the most popular destination Alicante.

Ali Gayward, easyJet UK country director, commented:

“We are delighted to be celebrating 15 fantastic years of our base at Newcastle International Airport.

“We are proud to be the biggest airline in Newcastle, serving destinations such as Rhodes and Alicante internationally, and domestic routes such as Belfast and Bristol.

“easyJet looks forward to continuing to provide low fares and friendly customer service to our passengers in the North East.”

Leon McQuaid, Head of Aviation Development at Newcastle International Airport, said:

“easyJet is our biggest airline, taking the North East travelling public to a great range of destinations and we’re delighted to be celebrating this milestone with them today.

“The commitment shown to the region by the airline is always great, with some fantastic routes and aircraft added over the years – the recently added A320neo aircraft being an example of this. We can’t wait to see where the next 15 years will take us.”

easyJet

easyJet is Europe’s leading airline offering a unique and winning combination of the best route network connecting Europe's primary airports, with great value fares and friendly service.

easyJet flies on more of Europe’s most popular routes than any other airline. easyJet carries over 82 million passengers annually, of which more than 13 million are travelling on business. easyJet flies 298 aircraft on more than 980 routes to 156 airports across 33 countries. More than 300 million Europeans live within one hour's drive of an easyJet airport.

easyJet aims to be a good corporate citizen, employing people on local contracts in seven countries across Europe in full compliance with national laws and recognising their trade unions. The airline supports a number of local charities and also has a corporate partnership with UNICEF which has raised over £10m for the most vulnerable children since it was established in 2012.

The airline takes sustainability seriously. easyJet invests in the latest technology, operates efficiently and fills most of its seats which means that an easyJet passenger's carbon footprint is 22% less than a passenger on a traditional airline, flying the same aircraft on the same route.

Innovation is in easyJet’s DNA – from our launch over 20 years ago when we changed the way people fly to the present day where we lead the industry in digital, web, engineering and operational innovations to make travel more easy and affordable for our passengers.
