easyJet, Europe’s leading airline, is proud to have pilots working with their fathers across our network. Co-pilot Kate Newton works alongside her dad Captain Mark Newton in Bristol, and easyJet’s Stansted base is also home to Captain David Gauntlett and his daughter First Officer Emma Gauntlett.
easyJet launched the Amy Johnson Initiative in 2015, to try and encourage more women to become pilots, aiming for 20% of its new entrant pilots to be female by 2020. Research has shown that girls who had a role model when growing up are more likely to become a pilot, so easyJet is celebrating inspiring parental figures Such as Captain Mark and Captain David this Father’s Day.
easyJet’s Captain Charlie Gibbs and his son First Officer Olly Gibbs will be celebrating this Father’s Day together… in the cockpit of an Airbus plane, operating together on four flights over the day. The father and son pilot duo will fly hundreds of passengers between Bristol, Glasgow and Lisbon this coming Sunday.
easyJet, Europe’s leading airline, will operate over 1600 flights on Father’s Day, reuniting many passengers with their loved ones for the special day.
Kate Newton said:
“It’s great working at the same base as my Dad, I get to see him far more often than I would normally outside of work!
“We get on really well so always have a laugh and a joke, and it’s nice to see a friendly family face at the start or end of the day.”
Emma Gauntlett said:
“It’s really fun flying with Dad and it’s so nice to be able to share our passion for flying. When I first started I tried to call him Dave but everyone kept referring to him as ‘my Dad’ - so I’ve given up and he’s now Dad at work!
“Working as a pilot can be challenging, especially with the shift work, so it’s nice to have someone who understands and I can talk to about work.”
David Morgan, Director of Flight Operations, said:
“It is great to see these pilots inspiring the next generation to follow in their footsteps, and really exciting that Charlie and Olly are able to spend Father’s day together doing what they love.
“easyJet is proud to fly our passengers across Europe and bring families together on occasions like this, providing low fares and friendly customer service along the way.”

easyJet is Europe’s leading airline offering a unique and winning combination of the best route network connecting Europe's primary airports, with great value fares and friendly service.
easyJet flies on more of Europe’s most popular routes than any other airline. easyJet carries over 82 million passengers annually, of which more than 13 million are travelling on business. easyJet flies 298 aircraft on more than 980 routes to 156 airports across 33 countries. More than 300 million Europeans live within one hour's drive of an easyJet airport.
easyJet aims to be a good corporate citizen, employing people on local contracts in seven countries across Europe in full compliance with national laws and recognising their trade unions. The airline supports a number of local charities and also has a corporate partnership with UNICEF which has raised over £10m for the most vulnerable children since it was established in 2012.
The airline takes sustainability seriously. easyJet invests in the latest technology, operates efficiently and fills most of its seats which means that an easyJet passenger's carbon footprint is 22% less than a passenger on a traditional airline, flying the same aircraft on the same route.
Innovation is in easyJet’s DNA – from our launch over 20 years ago when we changed the way people fly to the present day where we lead the industry in digital, web, engineering and operational innovations to make travel more easy and affordable for our passengers.
