The airline has reported a surge in bookings with thousands of people taking advantage of its affordable flights and heading to London for this Valentine's weekend.

The second most popular Valentine's destination is Malta, followed in the top five by Liverpool, Paris and Amsterdam.

Ali Gayward, easyJet's Head of Northern Ireland, said: ""Our figures indicate that Belfast International Airport will be one of our busiest airports over this Valentine's weekend.

""Travel and romance go hand in hand, and it's interesting to see both London and Malta ranking more popular than the traditional lovers' choice of Paris.

""With easyJet now offering passengers a choice of flying in and out of any of four London airports, there is fantastic flexibility and affordable fares – so it's easy to see why the city is the most popular Valentine's choice for our Northern Ireland passengers this year.

""It's a short flight from Belfast to London and, once there, people can enjoy the perfect romantic weekend, with an excellent choice of nightlife, West End shows, hotels and restaurants, as well as gorgeous parks and the traditional landmarks.

""It may surprise some people that Malta is our second most popular Valentine's destination, but it is an island that oozes romance.

""Whether you want to relax, enjoy the scenery, admire the history and architecture, or sample the delicious foods al fresco, Malta is an ideal choice and has the bonus of plenty of sunshine.

""Liverpool has always been very popular and our Northern Ireland passengers are attracted by the friendly warmth of the people. The city is certainly worthy of third place in our destinations for romantic breaks.

""It's no surprise that Paris is in our top five choices, as it really is one of the most romantic cities in the world.

""We were also pleased to see Amsterdam ranking so highly. It's such a beautiful place and there's nothing quite like a champagne trip along the beautiful canals.""
