Bringing a flavour of Egypt to London Stansted Airport, Kokoso the camel was available for all to see at easyJet’s check-in area today - Monday 25 February.
To celebrate the launch of its new route easyJet invited pupils from Great Dunmow Primary School to come along to the airport to meet Kokoso the camel and his handlers.
Hugh Aitken, easyJet’s UK Commercial Manager, commented:
""There isn’t a better way to celebrate the launch of our new Sharm el-Sheikh route than by evoking the spirit of Egypt and bringing a camel into the airport for all to see.
""The children of Great Dunmow Primary School were beside themselves with excitement about their trip to meet Kokoso the camel – it was a great first day back to school after half term for them.""
Sharm-el Sheikh is one of three new easyJet routes to take-off from London Stansted Airport this year.
The airline has already started flying to Marrakech in Morocco and Sofia in Bulgaria as part of easyJet’s expanded summer 2013 schedule which sees 65,000 affordable seats to these destinations available from London Stansted Airport per year.
The three new routes are proving popular with passengers as more than 1,000 holidaymakers travelled to the new destinations last week alone.
Mr Aitken added:
""We’re thrilled to be able to offer our passengers the chance to fly to Sharm el-Sheikh and Marrakech as they offer year-round sun for the first time from London Stansted Airport.
""We’re fully committed to making travel to more varied destinations, further away from home, easy and affordable, at the best value and best availability for our passengers and I know travellers will enjoy exploring these three new holiday hot-spots.""
Will Parkes, London Stansted Airport’s Communications Director, says:
""It’s always exciting to launch new routes, giving passengers even greater choice for travel and we’ve been thrilled to welcome new easyJet connections from Stansted this month.
""Kokoso the camel certainly hasn’t given anyone the hump today but thrilled passengers and local school children invited along to meet him. I have no doubt Sharm el-Sheikh will be an extremely popular connection and wish easyJet every success with all the new routes.""
